(A one million dollar settlement)...An unidentified female sued the City of Brawley and former police officer Ricardo Gabriel Valdez.

She accused them of civil rights violations, negigent hiring, supervision and retention and sexual battery. The woman wanted her identity keep private. Her attorney has announced a $1 million settlement has been reached in the lawsuit. The settlement is with the City of Brawley and the former police officer. The suit was filed in 2021. The woman accused the police officer of arresting her for DUI, and after taking her to the hospital for blood tests, the officer was accused of transporting her home. The woman said she woke up with the officer having sex with her. The Imperial County Sheriff's Department had investigated and reportedly found the officer's sperm in her bed. The officer was arrested and charged with sevreral felony counts. In August 2021 the District Attorney's office dropped the charges against the officer. The officer had been placed on administrative leave and he eventually resigned from the Brawley Police Department. As part of the settlement, the lawsuit was dropped.
