(Sheriff’s office to purchase body cams)….A Department of Justice grant was approved in September.
The over $74,700 grant was one of only six grants the Department issued in California. Tuesday the Board of Supervisors approved a plan to provide matching funds for the grant, without using General Fund monies. Sheriff Ray Loera told the Board his office would have over $149,000 to purchase 100 body cams and supplemental equipment. It is anticipated the cameras will be operational by the end of the year, or at the beginning of the new year. The Supervisors said they were impressed the Sheriff could develop a much-needed program at no cost to the Counties General Fund.
