( Fire Prevention Week)…Fire Departments around the Nation are marking the week October 4-10.
El Centro Fire Department, and others, use the week to issue an annual reminder. That is to check smoke alarms. Make sure batteries are fresh and the alarm is operational. Smoke Alarms should be checked monthly to ensure they are operational. According to the latest National Fire Protection Association research, working smoke alarms cut the chance of dying in a fire in half. Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Testing a smoke alarm is simple. Just press the button. If it does not beep, you need to replace the battery, or get a new smoke alarm.
