(JPIA is not happy with the Calexico City Council)…That is no surprise.
The state Joint Powers Insurance Authority has sent a letter to the Mayor of Calexico, Joong Kim. The letter says the JPIA is gravely concerned with the council’s recent action to place the City Manager, Richard Warne, on administrative leave, with a letter of intent to terminate after 30 days. The JPIA had threatened to terminate the insurance coverage for the city if the council did not stabilize Calexico’s administration. The Authority withdrew that threat after the council approved a contract with Warne, making him the permanent City Manager. The JPIA says the latest action once again puts the city’s insurance coverage in jeopardy. They say the issue will be on the JPIA’s agenda at their October meeting. Kim has said he did not see a problem. He said the city would simply obtain a different insurance carrier. The Mayor has said staff was currently searching for a different insurance provider.
