(Vehicle crashes into a canal)…It was reported at 1:15 Wednesday afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol says there were three people in the vehicle. One was trapped for some time. The CHP says the vehicle was traveling on Kalin Road, west of Walker Road. The vehicle drifted off the roadway, the driver over-corrected. The vehicle went out of control and crashed into the canal. One of the passengers was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected into the water. The other passenger was wearing a seatbelt and managed to get out of the vehicle. Both passengers suffered what was described as minor injuries. The driver was trapped in the vehicle, on her side. Calipatria and El Centro Fire crews were called in. The Highway Patrol says it took over 40 minutes to cut the roof off the vehicle and extricate the driver. She did not appear to be seriously injured, but because of the ordeal, she was flown out of the county to a hospital for observation. The CHP is continuing to investigate the incident.
