Yuma Fire Department battled a rash of fires Monday night.

It started with a palm tree fire shortly after 9:00 p.m. The tree fire in the 500 block of S. 15th Avenue was started by fireworks. Three large palms were burning. Occupants of nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Several minutes after the palm tree fires, a garage fire was reported in the 7500 block of E. 45th Street. The fire was knocked down before spreading to the living space, but two adults and one child were evacuated, and the Red Cross was called to assist the family.

Just after midnight, Yuma Fire responded to the 300 block of W. 32nd Street for the report of smoke seen inside a restaurant. On arrival, firefighters found a pile of soiled rags smoldering. Damage was confined to the rags.

Yuma Fire said that none of the incidents were related and there was no reason to believe the fires were intentionally set.
