(Two arrested, fentanyl seized)...It happened earlier this week.

Borer Patrol Agents with the Indio Station Strike Team were observing traffic on Interstate 10. A Black Nissan passed their position headed East at a high rate of speed. The agents followed the vehicle for about 12 miles as it swerved in and out of traffic. A vehicle stop was initiated near the Rice Road exit in Desert Center. The agents questioned the two occupants in the vehicle. The two said they were going to Arizona to visit family. In the back seat, agents saw two plastic gas cans and a spare tire that did not fit the Nissan. The agents then questioned the two separately, and they gave conflicting stories. A K-9 was called in. The dog alerted to the back seat area of the vehicle. The agents noticed anomalies in the floorboard of the vehicle and the gas tank sending unit. They opened the unit and found 60 packages floating inside. The pills in the packages tested positive for Fentanyl. The packages weighed over 99 pounds, with an estimated street value of over $1.1 million. The driver of the vehicle, an 18 year old Mexican Citizen and the passenger, an 18 year old US citizen, were taken into custody. The two, the vehicle and the narcotics were all turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
