A new law will give low-income Mexican residents living near the border access to in-state tuition rates at some community colleges.

On Friday, Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill that was authored by Assemblymember David Alvarez. The new law would make available in-state tuition at participating community colleges to low-income Mexicans who live within 45 miles of the border. This is a pilot program that will begin next year and continue through 2029.
