A United States Marine Corps V-22 Osprey crashed near Glamis in June of 2022 taking the lives of five Marines.

The Marine Corps recently released the cause of the crash, a mechanical problem, said to be a hard clutch engagement, that caused the tilt-rotor aircraft to lurch and damaging key components, ultimately leading to the crash in the desert. According to the investigation, conducted by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, there was nothing the Marines on board or the Marine maintenance team could have done to prevent the crash.
