The El Centro Regional Medical Center is looking to University of California San Diego Health to manage the facility.

The ECRMC Board will hold a Special Meeting on Monday, February 27, 2023 with a sole agenda item that calls for Review and Approval of Letter of Intent between El Centro Regional Medical Center, and University of California San Diego, Health for Interim Management and Operations of the hospital while an Operations and Administrative Support Agreement is developed.

UCSD and ECRMC have had an affiliation agreement in place since 2016 where the San Diego facility provided some management services. On January 23, 2023, the two health care organizations entered into a letter of agreement in which UCSD provided certain leadership and consulting services to ECRMC for a limited time, not to exceed 6 weeks. If the new agreement is signed, UCSD would assume actual management and operations of ECRMC, subject to the ultimate oversight of the ECRMC Board of Trustees. Currently the city owned facility has the El Centro City Council sitting as the hospital board.

The El Centro hospital has been struggling with massive debt and has discontinued Obstetrics and Pediatric services.

The Special Board meeting will be held Monday at 5:00 p.m. in the Medical Office Building next to the hospital on Ross Avenue in El Centro. The meeting is open to the public.
