(Supervisors agree to addendum to Final EIR and project changes)… A Public Hearing was held Tuesday.
The addition and changes were for the proposed Mount Signal and Calexico Solar projects. The developers asked for the addendum in order to install newer technology than had been originally included in the final Environmental Impact Report. The new Technology, Concentric Photovoltaic, needs a higher solar panel than had originally been approved. The change requested is for a smaller parcel of land. The developers said they only needed 1,300 acres of land to produce the same amount of energy promised in the original application. That is about 200 megawatts of solar power. Following the public hearing, the Board approved the requests. The power generated will be sold to San Diego Gas and Electric. The developer said he must now adjust the contract with SDG&E, before construction can begin on the solar projects, using the newer technology.
