(MOU signed)….The Board of Directors from Pioneers Memorial Hospital and El Centro Regional Medical Center made the announcement.
Wednesday the Boards signed the Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing to work together to continue to provide high quality health care and service to the greater Imperial Valley community, while evaluating a potential affiliation transaction. There are reports at least one of the Health Care facilities had been approached by Scripps Memorial. Scripps is not mentioned in the MOU. The 90 day Memorandum is the culmination of recent affiliation discussions and of a joint meeting where the hospital Boards and members of both the Brawley and El Centro City Councils heard from a national expert about the financial i9mpact of the Affordable Care Act on Healthcare Systems throughout the United States. The affiliation discussions will be carried out by a working group consisting of six members, three from each organization. Pioneers will be represented by Board members Katy Santillan and Linda Rubin and CEO Larry Lewis. El Centro will be represented by El Centro Mayor Cheryl Viegas-Walker, Board member Jon Edney and CEO David Green.
