(Driver involved in collision calls 911)…The collision Wednesday resulted in fatal injuries to a 62 year old man.
The California Highway Patrol says 48-year-old Gilberto Padilla Venegas of Imperial was driving westbound on Interstate 8, at around 70 miles per hour. The CHP says Clifford McDougall of Prescott, Arizona was also driving westbound on the Interstate, and was approaching at a much higher rate of speed. The CHP says McDougall did not adjust his speed or change lanes, and his vehicle collided into the rear of the Kia Sedona driven by the Imperial man. McDougall’s vehicle went out of control, traveling through the center median and across the eastbound lanes, where it over turned on the south dirt shoulder of the Interstate. The Prescott man was not wearing his seatbelt and he was ejected as the vehicle rolled. McDougall was pronounced dead at the scene. After the collision, Padilla Venegas pulled over and called 911 to report the incident. The Imperial resident suffered minor injuries, but said he would seek his own medical aid.
