(JPIA Executive Board makes a decision)…..The decision was not a surprise.
At their Board meeting Wednesday, the California Joint Powers Insurance Authority Executive Board decided to terminate the City of Calexico’ Liability, Workers Compensation and Building insurance The termination will go into effect January 1st. The Executive Board voted 7-2 to terminate. They felt enough time had been given to the City to develop a stabilized government, and they felt the City Council was still dysfunctional. Calexico City Councilman John Moreno was at the meeting. He outlined in detail all the City had done to reduce the turmoil in his city. The JPIA Board was not convinced enough had been done to prevent even further turmoil. The City has 14 days to appeal the Board’s decision. It is not known if an appeal is planned. Other city officials have said a search is underway to find another insurance carrier.
