(Two plans to restore the Salton Sea)…There is no doubt more plans are out there.
These two were presented to the Salton Sea Authority. The one plan was developed by the Imperial Irrigation District and supported by the County. The IID Restoration Plan has been presented publicly to the County Board of Supervisors, as well as to the State Water Resources Control Board. The lesser known plan was developed by Tetra Tech. That plan calls for the creation of levees around the Salton Sea shoreline, preserving the areas where existing habitats and geothermal plants are located. The plans calls for restoration of a larger lake than the IID plan. It also focuses more on recreation preservation. The SSA heard the presentations, but did not decide on which plan they preferred. The Salton Sea Authority General Manager Phil Rosentrator said it seemed the two plans could possibly work together.
