(Congressman Duncan Hunter vacates his office)....He left his congressional seat Monday.

The 50th Congressional seat will remain vacant until the next election in a year. Hunter was the only Republican in San Diego's Congressional delegation. The Alpine Republican had followed his father into politics, representing the 50th congressional district since 2009. The 43 year old had been indicted in 2018 on 60 federal counts based on accusations he and his wife and former campaign manager, Margaret Hunter, stole $250,000 of campaign funds, using it for family vacations, groceries, his extramarital affairs and othe non-campaign uses. Hunter eventually reached a plkea deal in December in which he entered a guilty plea to a singel count of conspiracy to convert campaign funds to personal use. That is a felony for which Hunter could be sentenced up to five years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 17.
