(State responds to County Declaration)…The County Board of Supervisors had issued an Emergency Declaration.

It was sent to the State in October 2019. It declared an emergency at the Salton Sea, and demanded the state begin to do something to protect the public from the toxic dust created by the receding lakebed. District 4 Supervisor Ryan Kelley released a letter Tuesday from the California National Resources Agency and the California Environmental Protection Agency. The letter was read into the record for the Board of Supervisors meeting. The letter acknowledges the air quality hazards from the Salton Sea, and assures the County that the Governor is acting on the requests made in the emergency declaration. Within the letter the agencies announced that the Governor’s proposed 2020-21 budget to be released later in the week, confirming the state’s commitment to improving conditions at the Salton Sea by proposing an additional $220 million for the Salton Sea Management Program.
