(Local Strike Team reassigned)…The Team had been sent to help combat the Walker Fire near Yosemite Park.
That assignment has been completed. The Yuma Fire Department says the team is not coming home. They have been reassigned to help work the Rough Fire near Fresno. Yuma is part of the local Strike. Other members are from the Brawley, County, Calexico and Calipatria Fire Departments. The Strike Team started their new assignment Sunday. They will be providing structural protection. The Local Team could be at their current location up to a week or less. Officials say a Strike Team is normally deployed for up to two weeks. They were sent to the Walker Fire last Monday. The Rough Fire has been burning for three weeks and has destroyed 49,440 acres, as of Monday morning. There are currently over 2,000 personnel assigned to the Rough Fire.
