(Board of Supervisors agrees to become the Lead Agency)…. The decision came after a Public Hearing Tuesday.
Under the State Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, the Board of Supervisors agreed to adopt a resolution to become the Groundwater Sustainability Agency. The Board said the decision was discussed with the Imperial Irrigation District. The IID agreed to support the County decision. The resolution will be sent to Sacramento. There will be a 90-day comment period. If there is no credible opposition to the resolution, the County will become the lead agency. The Board wants to take the Lead to work with the IID in protecting the water, and keeping it in the Imperial County. There are 15 known groundwater basins in the County. Surveys are underway to determine if there are any more. The IID is currently testing Groundwater wells in the eastern County.
