(Holtville loses one of its most ardent supporters)…Friday the City announced the passing of Elwood Pete Mellinger.
The long time public servant and former Ag Teacher at Imperial Valley College passed away Friday morning. He was 92. Mr. Mellinger was born in a small Michigan town. He served in the Army Airborne during World War 2, before settling in Holtville. He taught Agriculture classes at Imperial Valley College for 28 years, beginning in 1961. He served the City of Holtville for over 40 years. He was first appointed to the Holtville Planning Commission in 1973. He served the City as Planning Commissioner, City Councilman, and City Treasurer. Mr. Mellinger was Holtville’s City Treasurer at the time of his passing. Just last month, the IVC Board voted to rename the school’s Ag Building Mellinger Hall.
