(Calexico pool construction delayed)…The construction bid has been rejected.
It had been expected work on the new $7.3 million swimming complex may begin this week. Instead, the Calexico Unified School District Board failed to approve the bid on the first phase of work. The four member Board was advised the initial bid was $2 million over budget, and to bring the finances in-line, they would have to scrap the planned multipurpose room. The vote to accept the bid was split 2/2, which means the motion failed. The School District is sharing the cost to build the swimming complex with the city. Much of the funding is through government grants. The old pool at the High School was damaged beyond repair during the 2010 earthquake.
