(I-10 to reopen Friday)…It will be for limited traffic for a while.
Interstate 10 is a major route to Arizona. It was closed over the weekend, after floodwaters damaged bridges and washed out another. Tuesday, Imperial County Public Works Director William Brunet was asked by the County Board of Supervisors how long I-10 would be blocked. Brunet said it depended on how much manpower Cal Trans dedicated to the repairs. Cal Trans announced later that day a limited reopening would be possible by Friday. Traffic back-ups are expected, even when the Interstate reopens. Cal Trans had designated a detour to Highway 86 or Highway 111 to Interstate 8 after the bridges were washed out. That detour remains an option for travelers.
