A late afternoon storm raked the Imperial Valley with high winds and brief but heavy rain.
Authorities reported several power outages and downed tree limbs. The National Weather Service reported winds reached 39 miles per hour at the Imperial County Airport but stronger gusts were evident in other parts of the Valley. Downed utility poles and power lines forced the closure of roads in the Forrester Road and Aten Road area. There was debris reported on Interstate 8 near Dunaway Road that slowed traffic on the Freeway. Official measurement of rain at the airport was reported as just trace amounts but much heavier rain was reported in other parts of ther Valley. Flooding was also reported on highways and roadways in the eastern part of Imperial County. The storm activity is remnants of Hurricane Dolores and the moisture is expected to remain over the area for the weekend.
