(City of El Centro to discuss water conservation)….The state is facing a severe drought.
Officials have implemented a new demand for the reduction of water use in the state. The City of El Centro is now being asked to conserve 24% of its water use. Mayor Efrain Silva says they face a fine of $10,000 per day for non-compliance. Silva says the City Council will discuss increased conservation measures at their June 16th meeting. They include restrictions on public walkways, washing vehicles, water fountains, washing driveways and more. He says the restrictions currently in effect will be increased. The city has already restricted landscape and grass watering days for residential and commercial users. Properties located west of 8th Street are permitted to water on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Properties located East of 8th Street are permitted to water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. City Park watering must be reduced by 30%.
