(Large crowd at City Council meeting)….It was a full house at the Calexico meeting Tuesday
. The crowd was there to see if the interim City Manager would get a new contract, or not. The City Council began in closed session, which ran over two hours. When they came out of closed session it was announced the council had agreed to hire an interim City Attorney. An agreement with the Costa Mesa Law Firm of Rutan and Tucker. When the City Manager issue came up, the council voted 3-2 not to offer a new contract to Richard Warne. Council members Kim Joong, Luis Castro and Armando Real voted against the new contract. Council members Maritza Hurtado and John Moreno voted in favor. Real said he could not support the severance package offered in the new contract. Warne has been working for the city without a contract since December 1st. The next step for the Calexico City Council is to decide how they want to fill the City Manager position. The Joint Partnership Insurance Authority has voted to cancel the cities liability and workers compensation insurance if stable upper level administrators are not in place by July 1.
