(Calexico to discuss banking issue)…Some banks are leaving the Border City.
Bank of America says they will be closing their Calexico Branch in June. Friday the Calexico Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Committee will host a workshop to discuss the issue. There will be a banking and financing roundtable discussing the state of Banking in Calexico and the closures. Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia will be present, as well as Tim Walsh, Congressman Juan Vargas’ Chief of Staff, giving a legislative update on the banking situation in the border. Banks participating in the workshop will be First Imperial Credit Union, Rabobank, Sun Community Credit Union, Union Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. There will also be a presentation by the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico on binational financing opportunities. The workshop will be held from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at Family Style Buffet. Registration Friday starts at 8:30 am or you can call the Calexico Chamber for registration information. There is a $10.00 cost to attend the workshop. The fee includes registration, breakfast and materials.
