(Lobbying continues for new Expanded Port of Entry)….It is for Phase 2 of the project.
Phase one has already been funded. Bids are expected to be opened in September. Locals want phase two to be in place by the time phase one is complete in 2018. District one Supervisor John Renison was in Washington D.C. last week. The County Supervisor said he met with Senator Ed Johnson, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. He also met with Congress members Loretta Sanchez a ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee. The purpose was to lobby for Phase two funding for the Calexico Port to be included in the 2017 Homeland Security Budget. Renison also met with Customs and Border Protection officials to ensure the current and future Calexico Port will be adequately manned. While he was in the Nation’s Capital he spoke with representatives on the announced Bank closings in Calexico.
