(Afternoon fire)….It was reported at 1:00 Monday afternoon.
Yuma Fire responded to the call at 1803 West 30th Street. When they arrived, fire personnel found a cooking fire had spread throughout the kitchen, and into the attic. Crews were able to access the attic and extinguish the fire. One adult and two dogs were in the house at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. The kitchen and attic sustained significant damage. The home was no longer livable. The family of three adults and one child were assisted by the American Red Cross in finding alternate accommodations. Investigators determined the fire was caused on the stovetop. They say cooking oil was being heated when a packet of frozen food was dropped into the pan. This caused the oil to splash around the cooking surface, and igniting the fire.
