El Centro Police arrested a convicted felon in possession of a sawed-Off shotgun. Sunday morning at about 8:20 A.M. , Officer John Tang was patrolling in the area of 12th Street and El Centro Avenue when a car skidded around a corner in front of him. Officer Tang made a traffic stop on the vehicle and when he approached the car , the driver , identified as 31-year old Juan Corona of El Centro , attempted to run and a fight ensued. Corona broke free from the officers grasp and then ran to the area of Wilson and Adams. The suspect then climbed on to the roof of a house. Responding ECPD officers set up a perimeter around the house with the assistance of officers from the Imperial Police Department and the California Highway Patrol. A canine unit also responded. Officers were able to talk Corona off the roof and he was taken into custody. A search of Corona's vehicle led to a double-barreled sawed-off shotgun with a pistol grip as well as ammunition for the weapon. Corona was booked into Imperial County Jail for Possession of an Illegal Firearm , being a Felon in Possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.
