(Heroin found in a backpack)….El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents made the discovery.
It was at the Border Patrol Checkpoint on Highway 86. The agents were inspecting a commercial bus at the checkpoint at around 9:15 Friday morning. Agents noticed the backpack in the overhead storage. Passengers were asked several times who the backpack belonged to. Nobody came forward. The agents searched the backpack and discovered two bundles wrapped in clear plastic. They recognized the bundles as possible narcotics. A canine detection team alerted to the bundles, and the backpack was confiscated. The bundles tested positive for heroine. The narcotic had a total weight of 4.8 pounds, with an estimated street value of more than $57,600. The agents could not identify a possibly owner of the backpack and no arrests were made. The heroine was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
