(CHP releases preliminary report)… The report is on the tragic death of a toddler.
The 3 year old died Friday in the Imperial Sand Dune Recreation Area. In the preliminary report, the California Highway Patrol says they were called to Mammoth Wash at 11:55 am Friday. The Child and his family, residents of Santa Ana, were at the Dunes for the Easter Weekend. The preliminary investigation says the toddler was on top of a Honda Quad ATV. The CHP says the child pressed the accelerator lever, causing the quad to lunge forward. They say the child was not wearing any protective head or body equipment. After traveling about 100 feet, the quad overturned onto the 3 year old, caused major head trauma. The Chief Deputy Coroner Sgt. Eric Frazier says the child was pronounced at the scene. The tragedy remains under investigation.
