(Fatal Injury collision)…It was reported Saturday.
The California Highway Patrol says a 41-year-old man was driving his Jeep Cherokee along the west edge of the East Highline Canal, south of Quay Road, East of Calipatria. He was traveling at an undetermined rate of speed. The CHP says, for reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed the vehicle to travel off the east edge of the dirt road. The vehicle overturned and landed upside down in the canal and became submerged. The Highway Patrol says the driver was not restrained and was extricated by passersby. County Fire arrived on the scene and began to perform life saving measures, including CPR. The driver was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, where he expired from his injuries. The CHP says the investigation is continuing, and they say alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. Deputy Coroner Rodolfo Barron said the driver has been identified as 41-year-old Curtis Williams from Palm Springs.
