River water shortage could be sooner than later

(MWD makes a dire prediction)…The Metropolitan Water District is the largest water district in Southern California.

The MWD distributes water to most of the water districts in Southern California. They obtain their water from Northern California and the Colorado River. The severe drought in California has hit the MET hard. 20% of their Northern California water supply has been cut. They are now predicting there is a 50 % chance a shortage will be declared next year on the Colorado River. That is bad news for al Colorado River Water users, but it is especially bad for the MWD. They hold the lowest priority on the River, which means when deliveries are cut, they will be the first to receive less water. Arizona would be next. Imperial County holds a high priority and would be the last to have its deliveries cut. That means many in the state may try to get some of the Imperial County water. Lake Mead is reportedly only 38 percent full, the lowest level it has been since it was first filled in the 1930’s.
