(Holtville hosts the first in new series)…It is a series of Farmer’s Markets and Street Fairs.
Holtville has them scheduled for the third Thursday of every month, through June. It was a good news/bad news situation at the kick-off event. The good news is that the people turned out. Organizers were very pleased with the turn-out. The bad news is that there were only about half as many booths Thursday than there was during the last Farmer’s Market. Thursday’s event featured just 35 booths. Jerry Brittson, former Holtville Mayor, told the County Board of Supervisors earlier this week that the number was half of what it was for the last event. He attributed that to the high cost of permits from the Health Department. He said there were about 80 booths at the last Farmer’s Market. At the time the Supervisors promised to work on lowering the one-day permit cost, as well as a special rate for non-profits.
