(IID Board holds two public hearings Tuesday, on the same issue, the same day)….Board President Matt Desert said they wanted to cover all the bases.
The topic was the breakdown in talks for a new contract with the Professional Salaried Association. Negotiations between the Union and the District began in January. After several sessions with no agreement, an impasse was declared in April. Two mediating sessions were held in June, to no avail. Also in June the Union filed a request for fact finding with the Public Employment Relations Board. The Fact Finding report was released on August 14. The negotiators for the District issued their best and final offer on August 12th. The two sides could not come to an agreement on Health and Retirement issues. Directors Norma Galindo and Bruce Kuhn said the two sides should hold one more negotiating session. The Board voted 3-1-1, with Kuhn voting no and Galindo abstaining, to the James Hanks motion to implement the IID’s Best and Final Offer. It begins the process of implementation. The motion encourages the two sides to continue to meet and hammer out an agreement.
