(County hit by another weekend storm)…The storm arrived Saturday evening.
Winds were reported at over 43 miles per hour, creating a dust storm. That was followed by thunder, lightening and rain. The rain was heavy in some areas, but not at the National Weather Service monitoring station at the County airport. Rain amounts were not available. They did cause flooding on several county roads. Flooding in the desert caused the closing of Highway 98, between just outside Calexico to the Interstate 8 Y. Power outages were reported sporadically around the county. The worst was in the southern part of El Centro, where over 80 Imperial Irrigation District customers lost their lights. The outage lasted for about two hours before IID crews had the lights back on.
