The 2014 Fallowing year operates under the calendar year, beginning January 1st. The Imperial Irrigation District Board agreed to pay continue to pay participants $125 per acre-foot. They also agreed to pay those leasing Western Farm Lands from the District $75 per acre foot if the volunteer to participate in the 2014 program. The District uses a fallowing program to conserve water to fulfill the annual water transfer delivery schedules for the San Diego County Water Authority, Salton Sea mitigation requirements, payback of previous year’s inadvertent overruns of Colorado River water. Under the Quantification Settlement Agreement, fallowing to conserve water for transfer ends in 2017.
