(Colorado River water users should be in line fore Federal Assistance)…That is the opinion of the Chief of the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
Pat Mulroy says the drought situation on the River is as much as an extreme weather event as Sandy was for the East Coast. Mulroy was speaking about the extended drought on the River as well as the anticipated Federal shortage declaration later this month. The declaration by the Bureau of Reclamation would trigger delivery cutbacks. As a Junior rights holder, Nevada would be among the first to have their allotment of Colorado Water cutback. Mulroy says the cutbacks would not affect just Las Vegas, but all water users. Levels at Parker Dam and Lake Mead are expected to be at their lowest levels since 1966. Mulroy told a Las Vegas newspaper it would take a Noah’s Arc type storm to avoid the shortage declaration at the end of August.
