Former CEO at PMH enters plea

(Mendoza enters guilty plea)…Richard Mendoza is the former Chief Executive Officer of Pioneers Memorial Hospital.

He was facing charges of embezzlement. Charges were filed against Mendoza following an investigation by the FBI. They were notified after an annual audit in 2011 discovered irregularities. Mendoza reportedly submitted more than 30 fraudulent reimbursement requests between June 2008 and July 2011. The reimbursement requests were for training, seminars and conferences that never happened. Charges against Mendoza indicated he had embezzled more than $90,000 in the 3-year period. Mendoza resigned from his position at PMH in November 2011, after working at the facility for 11 years. As part of his plea agreement Mendoza agreed to pay back the total amount embezzled. He is scheduled to be sentenced in October.
