(Robert Rosas being honored this week)….The Imperial Valley native was shot to death on July 23, 2009.
Rosas was working as a Border Patrol agent when he was ambushed by a group of illegal migrants in the brush near Campo. Agents will honor Rosas’s memory by holding a relay run from the site of his death to his grave site in El Centro. El Sector agents will run over 22 miles of the 68 mile relay. It will start Tuesday evening and end Wednesday morning. Three participants in the ambush have entered guilty pleas in Federal court. A fourth suspect Marcos Rodriguez Perez will stand trial in September. A fifth suspect remains at large. Rosas graduated from Central Union High School. He worked as a Correctional Officer at the Centinela State Prison, and worked two years as a reserve El Centro Police Officer before joining the US Border Patrol.
