(Mountain Fire still just 15% contained)….The latest update on the fire was issued Friday morning.
Cal Fire says all evacuations remain in place. Road and trail closures are still in place. They say the fire in the mountains near Palm Springs has now burned 24,818 acres. There are now over 3,300 fire personnel on scene. Fire officials say the blaze is burning in steep, dangerous terrain that is difficult to reach. Cal EMA also has announced Specialized C 130 Firefighting Aircraft have been activated to assist efforts to combat the fire. They say the California Air National Guard’s 146th Airlift Wing is also joining firefighting efforts. No injuries have been reported. Evacuation Centers at Hemet and Hamilton High Schools remain open. Small animals are being taken to the San Jacinto Animal Shelter.
