(Enterprise Zones ending)…Now what? Imperial Valley Enterprise Zone Manager Danny Fitzgerald has some information
. AB 93 was passed and signed into law. That bill eliminates the Enterprise Zone program at the end of this year. Fitzgerald has released information on what this means for businesses with regards to the hiring credits. He says a business that has hired an employee and obtained a voucher certificate, they may continue to accrue tax credits for that employee, even if they continue to work after the end of this year. He said the tax credits would continue to carry forward for up to ten years. Fitzgerald says if a business has hired someone but have not obtained the voucher certificate, they should pursue it soon. He said the legislation is not clear on voucher applications and it is better to be safe. He said it is not too late to hire new employees in the near future and still take advantage of the credit. Anybody hired by the end of the year is eligible. Interested employers should contact the Enterprise Zone or the OneStop Career Center as soon as possible, before the year ends. The tax credits are good only for businesses within the Brawley or Calexico Enterprise Zones.
