The Imperial County Public Health Department made the announcement Friday morning. They said four more individuals have died from complications due to the influenza. The individuals include a young adult, two middle aged, and one senior. They say 3 of the individuals had underlying health conditions. These recent deaths are in addition to the death of a toddler reported in December 2019. That brings a total of 5 deaths in Imperial County this flu season. It is unknown if any of the individuals had been vaccinated for the flu. Last flu season, five flu related deaths were reported in Imperial County. County Health Officer Doctor Stephen Munday said it is important to remember that flu season is not over and it is not too late to get a flu shot. It is recommended that all individuals six months of age and older, including health care personnel, should receive a flu shot now if they have not already done so. Munday said flu continues to circulate at higher levels in Imperial County and flu activity is widespread statewide.
