The California Highway Patrol is investigating a traffic accident that claimed a life.

The accident was reported at 6:43 p.m. Sunday. Initial reports indicate a car ran into the rear of a motorhome while both were eastbound on Interstate 8 at Bonds Corner Road. The motorhome burst into flames and when emergency crews arrived it was fully engulfed in fire. The occupants of the motorhome were able to escape from the vehicle. Two of the passengers were injured and were transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center. There was one fatality reported. No other details have been released as the accident remains under investigation. Eastbound traffic was shut down for about 45 minutes and then was diverted to the center divider while emergency crews remained on the scene.
