The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program has named Imperial Valley College as one of 150 community colleges eligible to compete for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.

IVC  Superintendent / President Martha Garcia said , " Imperial Valley College is tremendously honored to be bestowed such prestigious recognition. To be considered one of the top 150 community colleges in the country requires collective effort from all who are committed to Imperial Valley College's growth." 

Based on strong and improving student outcomes  -  including in learning , completion rates , employment rates and earnings , and equity  - 15 percent  of community colleges nationwide have been invited to apply for the Aspen Prize. The colleges are eligible to compete for the 2021 prize. They are located in 39 states  , rural and suburban areas. The Top Ten finalists will be named in May 2020. The Aspen Institute will then conduct site visits and collect additional qualitative data.
