(Agriculture still a billion dollar industry in Imperial County)…The 2018 Crop and Livestock Report was presented to the Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

County Agriculture Commissioner Carlos Ortiz released the report in accordance with requirements of the California Food and Agricultural Code. According to the report, the gross production for 2018 was valued at $2,226,031,000. This represents an increase of over $16 million, or 7.77%, compared to the 2017 gross value. With just over 379,000 head, cattle remained the number one producing crop in Imperial County, with a gross value of almost $470 million, an increase of 21.35% from 2017. Rounding out the top ten are Alfalfa, leaf lettuce, head lettuce, broccoli, onion, Bermuda grass, spinach, alfalfa seed and carrots. Total Harvested acres in 2018 was down by .39%, as compared to 2017. The complete 2018 Crop and Livestock Report can be viewed online at the County website.
