(The 2nd Public Hearing)….Two were scheduled this week.

The first was held Tuesday afternoon. The Imperial Irrigation District is hosting the hearings. They are to gain input on the wildfire mitigation plan. Under Senate Bill 901, the District is charged with obtaining public comments on a plan that addresses wildfire risks related to electrical infrastructure to establish programs and procedures to reduce risk, prepare for wildfire events and develop program oversight. The new law was adopted following the fires of 2018 that devastated several areas in California. Cal Fire says in Riverside County there were 11 incidents between 2013 and 2019, in which a total of 530 acres were burned in IID’s service territory due to various causes. In Imperial County, fire officials are reviewing incident records and notes there have been fires, of varying causes, which have affected IID’s electrical infrastructure. The 2nd and final Public Hearing is being held Thursday in the IID Boardroom in La Quinta, starting at 4:30 pm. To view a draft of the proposal plan and/or leave comments go to the IID website.
