(The first casualty of budget cuts)…The Board of Supervisors are trimming expenditures in an attempt to balance the County Budget.

One of the cuts was hiring replacement staff. Imperial County Clerk Recorder Chuck Storey says that action is forcing him to make cuts in his department. One of those actions is to stop accepting appointments for Marriage ceremonies. He says they are booked through October, and those ceremonies will be honored, but he cannot book anymore after that. Marriage Certificates will not be affected. Storey went before the Board Tuesday to appeal the denial of replacement staff, but the board postponed the budget hearing Tuesday, and rescheduled it for next week. Storey was asked to come back then. The Clerk/Recorder also said he may have found an error in the proposed budget that could possibly free-up funds for his Department. That, too, will be discussed September 17th.
