(Fourth of July)…In Imperial County, there were no major incidents.

County Fire Chief Estrada said there were no serious reports of illegal fireworks in the county. Imperial County has an ordinance prohibiting the sale or use of fireworks in the unincorporated areas. In Yuma, it was a different story. The Yuma County Fire Department says they were kept busy on Independence Day. It all started at just after 4:00 pm when dumpster fires were reported on Main Street. In all, fire crews quickly extinguished five separate dumpster fires. At 10:00 pm and for the next 45 minutes, crews responded to 3 separate fire believed to have been caused by fireworks. During that same time period, a house fire was reported in the 1300 block of South 22nd Street. The fire was on the roof and quickly extinguished. Shortly after another house fire and another dumpster fire were reported. Both on West Colorado Street. Crews responded to another fire on 12th Street. A trash container and fence were found burning. Fireworks are suspected in the fence fire and previous dumpster fire. At 2:25 Friday morning, a vehicle fire on South 47th Street had spread to a house. That fire was quickly taken care of. Arson is suspected in that fire. Mutual aid was provided to the San Luis Fire Department, and more than a dozen emergency medical responses occurred.
