U.S. Customs and Border Protection will open a temporary facility to house the large volumes of family unites being detained in the Yuma area.

Construction of the soft-sided facility began on June 15 and is part of the response to the current crisis along the southwest border. The temporary facility is weather-proof and climate controlled. The structures will provide for eating , sleeping and personal hygiene needs. Up to 500 individuals in Border Patrol custody can be accommodated while they wait transfer to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement , or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services -Office of Refugee Resettlement. Cost of the facility is just under $15 million and provides showers , toilets , and sinks. laundry trailers , sleeping mats , kitchen equipment , personal property storage boxes , office space , interior and perimeter closed circuit television , lockers , security , power , HVAC services , snacks , water , and custodial services. Similar temporary facilities have also been opened in Donna and El Paso , Texas.
